Sri Agastheeswarar Temple is technically located in a place called Chinnambedu though locally people call it as Siruvapuri.  The Temple construction was built by the Pallava Kings and reconstructed few times during the Chola period but the Vijayanagara Kings too had their share in promoting this Temple because the front mandapam was constructed only during their time.  The Presiding Deity here is Lord Shiva in the name of Sri Agastheeswarar and His Consort Goddess Parvathy is called as  Anandhavalli.  Lord Shiva is believed to be a Swayambhumoorthy here and in the form of a Shiva Lingam in the Sanctum Sanctorum.  The Temple gain more prominence since they say that Sage Agasthiyar had come here and had worshipped this Agastheeswarar.  Along with Lord Shiva there is an Idol of Lord Ganesha which is also believed as a Swayambhumoorthy.  This is a unique Shiva Temple with a Gaja Brushtam type of Sanctum Sanctorum.  Goddess Anandhavalli has a separate Sub Shrine and the Gopuram on top of this contains a stucco of Lord Pallikondeswarar. The Navagraha enclosure too is located within the Ambals Sub Shrine.  There are Sub Shrines for Ganesha, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar, Nag Devathas, Ayyappan, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar, Natarajar, Manickavasagar, Brahmma, Bhairavar and Goddess Durgai.  There is a Sub Shrine for Kasi Viswanathar in between Ambal Sannadhi and the Sanctum Sanctorum. Festivals like Pradosham, Maha Shivarathri, Thiru Karthigai are celebrated in a grand manner.  There is an Allikulam located near the Temple and an open ground too is available just opposite to the Temple where any number of vehicle could be parked.
