Thindal is in the outskirts of Erode on the Erode to Perunthurai Road. Sri Velayutha Samy Temple or Sri Murugan Temple is a place of Worship located on a hillock in Thindal. Thindal is considered as one of the 24 Countries ruled by the Chera Kings. This Temple is rated highly and praised by Sage Arunagirinathar. Thindal is imaginarily divided into two, the Temple built on the hillock is known as Mel Thindal or Thindalmedu and the Eastern part of the hillock is known as Kizh Thindal. The Presiding Deity of the Temple is Sri Velayutha Swamy who stands alone in the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Temple. The Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Murugan is also found flanked by Valli and Devasena in the same Sanctum Sanctorum. Sri Murugan looks resplendent with the Spear or Vel that He holds. Sri Velaydha Swamy is known as Sri Kuzhandhai Velayudha Swami or Sri Kumara Velayudha Swamy since He is seen as a Boy. Devotees coming to this Temple buy a Lemon and place it beneath the Divine Feet of Sri Velayutha Swamy and take it home as a Prasadam.

The Temple has other Sub Shrines for Arasamarathu Vinayagar who is seen beneath an Arasa Maram and is surrounded by Naagars. There is also a Sub Shrine for Siddhi Vinayagar who is seen along with Naga Devathas. Very close to the entrance is the Sub Shrine of Sri Idumban. The Temple is famous for its Thannasi Siddhar Cave. During Karthigai special poojas are done to Thannasi Siddhar. The Temple has a Natural Spring from which water is collected for annointing Sri Murugan every day with it. The Temple has a huge parking space. In recent years Devotees have made it a habit to bring their New Vehicles to this Temple for offering a Debut Pooja. Shasti, Kiruthigai, Panguni Uthiram, Thai Poosam, Vaikasi Visagam are some of the festivals celebrated with great fanfare.
