Sri Asthrapureeshwarar Temple is located in a village called Anur which is close to Chenglepet. It is an East facing Temple. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Asthrapureeswarar and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Soundaravalli. Like other Hindu Temples this Temple also has Deepastambam, Nandhi Mandapam, Balipeedam and a Dwajasthambam. It is believed that Mahabrarath Arjuna did penance here and got Pasupatha Astharam from Lord Shiva here hence the Presiding Deity is known as Asthrapureeswarar. It is believed that this Temple was developed by Pallava, Chola and Vijayanagara Kings. This Aanur Asthrapureeswarar Temple is built facing East and is built on the banks of River Palar. Currently this Temple is being renovated by following the  traditional methods. There is a small hill near this Temple known as Asthra Hill. This place was known as Aadhiyur during the reign of Kulathunga Chola I. This Temple was supposedly built in the 7th century by the Pallava King Vijayakamba Varman. After his tenure his son Aparajitha Varma Pallavan was defeated by the Great Chola King Adhithaya Chola I. This was the beginning of the end of the Pallava Dynasty.
