Vasavasamudram or Vasuvasamudhram was also known by the name Parameswaramangalam in earlier days. The Temple was earlier known as Saileswaram Temple. Vasavasamudhram is located close to Kalpakkam. Technically this Temple is called as an Island Temple because of its location in the centre of River Paalar. A causeway bridge connects the main land in Vasavasamudhram to this Temple. On crossing the bridge there is a Sub Shrine of Sri Dhakshinamoorthy on the right side. Sri Kailasanathar Temple is built facing East and there is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam along with a Dwajasthambam. At the entrance of the Moolasthanam is a Lion Headed Pillar and an inscription stone. At the entrance of the Moolasthanam there is a Vinayagar Idol on the left and a Subramaniyar Idol on the right. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Kailsanatha Swamy who is seen East facing and in the form of a Shiva Lingam. He is regarded as an incarnation of Shiva and His Consort is known as Goddess Kanakambigai who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi. Goddess Kanakambigai Ambal has a South facing Shrine. Around the Koshtam the Idols of Vinayagar, Dhashinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Durgai and Chandikeshwarar are seen. The Temple has Sub Shrine of Vinayagar, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar and Bhairavar. There is a Navagraha Sannadhi too.

There is a story which says that Ayapakkam Sri Shenbageshwarar came to this place and hid Himself on a hillock which was then in the middle of the River. Parvathi came and search Him and She climbed the hillock using Her knees. Her Knee marks are still visible in the Temple even today. It is said that Sri Kailasanatha Swamy and Goddess Parvathi stayed here for sometime. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.
