Sri Maha Ganapathi Temple is also called as Ganapathy Agrahara Vinayagar Temple and it is located in a village called Sri Maha Ganapathy Agraharam close to Thanjavur. The roads leading to this Temple are narrow and serpentine. There is a coloured South facing Welcome Arch in one of the narrow roads. This Welcome Arch comprises of three Vinayagar Idols along with a few others. At the outset the Temple has a small East facing Gopuram on top of which is a centrally seated Ganapathy Idol. There is a multi pillared Mandapam wherein all the pillars and the ceiling are painted attractively in contrast colours. On entering the Maha Mandapam there is a short Dwajasthamabam or Kodi Maram, a small Neivedhya Peedam and a Moonjur Vaahanam facing West towards the Moolasthanam. There are 16 coloured Ganapathy Idols on the wall of the Temple and they are as follows: 1) Sri Bala Ganapathy, 2) Tharuna Ganapathy, 3) Veera Ganapathy, 4) Sheeba Ganapathy, 5) Niruthi Ganapathy, 6) Vigna Ganapathy, 7) Yoga Ganapathy, 8) Vallaba Ganapathy, 9) Baktha Ganapathy, 10) Oorthava Ganapathy, 11) Heramba Ganapathy, 12) Bhuvanesa Ganapathy, 13) Maha Ganapathy, 14) Lakshmi Ganapathy, 15) Sakthi Ganapathy and 16) Thirumuga Ganapathy. To the right are a few more golden coloured Idols of 16 Gnapathys which are all neatly kept in tandom and they look captivating to the eyes of the Devotees. There are two Dwara Baalagas close to the Moolasthanam an and near one of them is a huge framed picture of Kanchi Maha Periyava. On top of the entrance near the Moolasthanam there are few more coloured Idols of Maha Vishnu, Shiva, Parvathy, Ganapathy and Murugan along with Ganapathy and Subramaniyar who is flanked by Valli & Devasena. Furthermore there are two more Dwara Baalaga Idols at the threshold of the Moolasthanam. Close to one of the Dwara Baalaga Idol are the Idols of Murugan, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Dhakshinamoorthy, Bhairavar and Chandikeshwarar. The Urchavamoorthy Idol too are safely kept in an enclosure there. The entire threshold and its sorroundings seems to be gold plated with Pillayar, Mahalakshmi, Saraswathi and Gajalakshmi Images embossed. At the rear of the Moolasthanam it is unique to find a Peacock with Ganapathy mounted on it. The ceiling close to this has a stunning Image wherein an Elephant and a Cow could be seen but they together have only a solitary or single face. There is a Sub Shrine for Chandikeshwarar here and He is known by the name Gaja Chander. The peripheral has a Yaagasaalai. This Maha Ganapathy Temple is quite different from other Temples since the entire ceiling has different gorgeous designs and likewise the entire flooring of the Temple has been neatly tiled. The Temple has a small Charriot to be run on festive occasions. The Temple has its own Madapalli or Temple Kitchen. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is a Vanni Maram and the Theertham is known as Cauvery Theertham. It is customary in this village to dedicate the home made Kozhukattai before the Presiding Deity of this Temple on Vinayagar Chathurthi Days.
