Nambakkam is a small hamlet beyond Poondi in Tiruvallur District. This is a very small Temple and the full name of it is Sri Maragadambikai Samedha Sri Mandeeswarar Temple. Though small the fame and name of the Temple has spread far and wide. The road leading to this Maandheeswarar Temple is muddy and narrow. The Moolasthana Gopuram is visible to the Devotees from quite a distance. This Maanthiswarar Temple does not have any Rajagopuram, Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram or a Compound Wall. Devotees may have to enter the Temple by climbing 5 to 6 steps through the South facing entrance to reach the Moolasthanam. In reality the Moolavar who is known as Sri Mandeeshwarar is actually East facing in His Sanctum Sanctorum but Devotees can enter the Sanctum Santorum through the South entrance. None can enter through the Eastern side since its blocked. On the Temple's outer peripheral there is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a West facing Nandhi Vahanam beneath a four pillared Mandapam and the Nandhi Bhagawan looks towards the Moolasthanam through a small gaping hole. The Nandhi Bhagawan is known as Maha Nandheeswarar. Devotees who try to look through this gaping hole can see the Presding Deity of Sri Mandheeswarar who is in the form of an East facing Shiva Lingam. The Shiva Lingam is seen slightly tilted towards the right. He is considered to be Omnipotent and Devotees having Maandhi Dosham expiate and perform Mandhi Dosha Parihaara Poojai. Just before the threshold of the Moolasthanam are two Idols of Vinayagar. The Consort of this Temple is Sri Maragadambigai Ambal who is seen in Her South facing Shrine in a standing posture. There is a Sub Shrine for Sri Subramaniyar who seen flanked by His Consorts Valli and Devasena on either side. They have erected two lovely coloured Gopuram on top of the Sri Mantheeswarar Moolasthanam and Ambal's Moolasthanam. Devotees are seen lighting Lamps near the Eastern as a result of which the walls of the place looks gloomy and dark. Hence they have erected a shelter in which Lamps could be lighted with ease. It is said that Devotees are expected to light 27 Oil Lamps so that they would be rid of all their sins.
