This is a Guru Parihaara Sthalam. The Pesiding Deities of this Temple are Thiruvalleswarar and Valithayanathar. They Bless their Devotees along with their Consorts Jagadhambal and Thayammai. Here Lord Shiva can be seen as a Self Manifested or Swayambu Lingam. This Temple is considered as the 21st Thevaram Paadal Petra Sthalam in Thondai Mandalam region. There is a three tiered Rajagopuram and the Vimanam of this Temple is built by following the Gajabrustha style of Architecture. It is believed that the Marriage of Lord Vinayaka with Kamalai and Vimalai took place here in this Temple. Recently on 29th January 2012 the Maha Kumbabhishekam was performed here. This Temple was built by the Chola Kings. Initially this place was known as Thiruvalithayam. There are Sub Shrines for Gods and Goddess like Varasiddhi Vinayakar, Murugan, Somaskandar, Anjaneyar, Meenakshi Sundareswarar, Maha Vishnu, Brahma, Suryan, Chandran, Dakshinamoorthy, Durgai, Navagraham, Bairavar, Nalvar ana Arunagirinathar.
