Sri Vaidyanathaswamy Temple or Vajrathampanatha Temple is located between Ariyalur and Thiruvaiyaru in a placed called Thirumazhapadi in Ariyalur District. The Presiding Deity is known as Vaidyanathaswamy or Vajrathampanatha Swamy, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The Presiding Deity is a Swayambumurthy here and His Consorts are Sundarambigai and Balambigai. Both of them have separate Shrines within the Temple. The Temple was built between 1000-2000 years ago on the Banks of River Kollidam which is a tributary to River Cauvery. The Cholas, Pandyas, Pallavas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagara and the Maratha Rulers had a big hand in the development of this Temple. The East facing Rajagopuram is seven tiered and the other Gopuram is five tiered. The Temple attaches great importance to Nandhi Bhagwan, the Sacred Bull. It is believed that the Nandhi got wedded here. Nandhi Bhagwan assumes a human form here and has a Shrine in the name of Nandhiamperumal. The four Nandhis found here are said to represent the four Vedas. There is an exclusive Shrine for Sri Jura Haraharar. It is believed that those who offer hot boiled rice with hot rasam as an offering to the God would be rid of their fever and high temperature.  Saint Sundarar has sung in Praise of this Temple. There is an enclosure for the 63 Nayanmars. The Car / Chariot festival draws several Devotees from far and near. The Holy Tank is called Kollidam and a dip here is considered to cure all ailments of the Devotees. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is a Palm Tree. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.
