Kakkalur is a Suburb of Thiruvallur Town and this Temple is built on the banks of River Cooum. It is an East facing Temple but there are two entrances for it. The first entrance is on the East while the other entrance is North facing. This Temple does not have a conventional Rajagopuram or Dwajasthambam. Instead there is a coloured Gopuram on top of which the East facing stucco Idols of Sri Rama, Goddess Seetha and Lakshmana are seen. Sri Anjaneyar too is seen but is North facing and in a kneeling posture. It is said that Sri Veera Anajaneyar had killed a Demon named Kaakasuran after which this place was named as Kakkalur. Sri Veera Anajaneyaswamy Temple is actually an East facing Temple with a Vinayagar Sub Shrine on its right. Facing the Vinayagar's Sub Shrine is a small Neivedhya Peedam and a Moonjur Vaahanam. There is a Thulasi Maadam in the area between the Vinayagar's Sub Shrine and the North facing entrance. There is a Neem Tree on the anterior side of the Temple. Beneath the Neem Tree there are East facing Idols of Vinayagar, Kaalinga Narthana Krishnar and a few Naaga Devathaas.

The anterior of the Moolasthana Mandapam is made up of multiple pillars and each of these pillars are painted in contrast colours and are gorgeous to look at. Even the ceiling of the Temple has been painted differently to make it look awe inspiring. There are two tall coloured Dwara Baalaka Idols who seem to stand guard. The Presiding Deity of Sri Veera Anjaneya Swamy is in a standing posture and is East facing in the Sanctum Sanctorum but His Head faces towards the North to draw more Power. The Moolavar of this Temple is around 8 to 9 feet tall and made out of black granite stone with a Bell tied to His Tail Tip. A pair of Kangans is seen in both His hands. His right hand is seen in a Abhayahastha posture where He is seen holding a Sowgandhika Flower in the left hand. One of his leg is slightly ahead of the other which indirectly implies that He is ready to move and help His Devotees. There is an Urchavamoorthy Idol of Sri Anjaneya Swamy in a standing posture kept within the Moolasthanam. Devotees can circumambulate the Moolavar Sannadhi and even here all the walls are beautifully painted with pictures from the Epic Ramayana. The Portrait of Sri Ayyappa Swamy looks eye captivating. The peripheral of the Temple has a lovely painted Thulasi Maadam.

It is believed that Sri Vyasaraja had installed the Presiding Deity or Sri Veera Anjaneya Swamy between 1460 to 1539. He was an ardent Patron of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. This Temple its Poojaris mainly from the Madhwa Community and mostly the traditions of the Madhwas are followed. Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated here with great fanfare. Chanting of Raama Naamam is another Hallmark of this Temple. Though small, this Temple has its own Madapalli or Temple Kitchen and the Annadhana Koodam looks quite modern with Tables and Charis. There are a few shops around the Temple selling flowers, fruits, coconuts and other Divine Articles. There is a limited Vehicular Parking space near the Temple. Sri Rama Navami and Hanumath Jayanthi are celebrated in a grand manner
