Sri Vimmeeswarar Temple is located in Cherapanancheri which is close to Padappai and Mannivakkam in Kanchipuram District. This is believed to be one of the ancient Temples of Kanchipuram District and some say that it is more than 3000 years old. The Temple is located to the right of Danish Engineering College. Sri Veemeeswarar Temple is East facing and located close to the main road. Though dilapidated its Gajabrushtam style still attracts all the Devotees coming here. There is a West facing Idol of Surya Bhagwan looking towards the Moolasthanam. It is believed that Surya Bhagwan had come to this Temple to worship Sri Vimeeswarar and His Consort Goddess Swarnambikai. There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing West towards the Moolasthanam. Most of the Temple's anterior side is covered with a temporary roofing. It is a sad plight to notice that the Idols around the Koshtam have gone missing. It is said that Kulothunga Cholan III had a big hand in developing this Temple during his lifetime. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Vimeeswarar who is also known as Sri Vimesuramudaya Nayanar who is in the form of a Shiva Lingam. The Consort in this Temple is Sri Swarnambigai who is an incarnation of Goddess Parvathy.  Most of the later Chola Kings are said to have visited this Temple. In recent times a Sub Shrine of Ganapathy had come up. There are three Temple Tanks or Pushkarani close to the Temple. This Temple is said to have enormous amount of Lands surrounding it, but most of the lands have been encroched by unknown people. This Temple is kept open from 7 AM to 10 AM only and hence those who intend visiting could contact Sri Mahalingam in his Mobile 98413 36838 before doing so. Pradosham, Maha Shivarathri, Pournami are some of the festivals that are celebrated in a grand manner.
