Arulmigu Viswamithra Mahalingeshwarar Temple is a small Temple located in the seashore of Bay of Bengal in a far flung village called Vijayapathi near Koodangulam. It has a few annexe Temples close to the Main Temple. The Temple does not have a Rajagopuram but instead it has a small East facing coloured Gopuram in which the Idols of Shiva, Parvathy, Ganesha, Murugan, Sage Vishvamithrar and Nandhi Bhagawans are found. Outside the Temple complex there is a Neem Tree beneath which rows of Naga Devatha Idols are installed. There are Sub Shrines for Suryan and Chandran who face the Moolasthanam. To the right is a Navagraha Sannadhi. Devotees may have to climb 3 to 4 steps to reach the multi pillared Mandapam located before the Moolasthanam. A Neivedhya Peedam or a Bali Peedam along with a Nandhi Vaahanam face the Moolasthanam. There are two Dwara Baalakas on either side of the threshold leading to the Sanctum Sanctorum and they are known as Mazhuvudaiyar and Thirisulanathar. Close to these Dwara Baalakas is an Idol for Anugyai Vinayagar and Bala Murugan. Close to them is a Narthana Ganapathy and Mahishasura Mardhini. The Moolasthanam is East facing and Sri Vishvamithra Mahalingeshwarar is in the form of a Shiva Lingam. He is considered as an incarnation of Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Raama who killed Thadagai incurred the Brahmmahathi and Srikathi Dosham. It was Sage Vishwamithra who got Rama relieved from both these Doshams by Praying here. The Ambal is known as Akilandeshwari Ambal and there is a separate entrance leading to Her Shrine. Devotees may have to climb 3 to 4 steps to reach this Shrine. In one of the pillars of the Akilandeshwari Ambal Shrine there is an Anjaneya Idol and a Manickavasagar Idol on either side. Gangai and Yamunai are seen standing as Dwara Baalakis on the threshold of the Akilandeshwari Ambal's Shrine. The Akilandeswari Ambal is seen in a standing posture and East facing. Between the Vishwamithra Mahalingeshwarar's Shrine and Akilandeshwari Ambal's Shrine is a Homa Kundam where Homam and Yaagam could be performed. In the outer peripheral there are East facing Sub Shrines for Kanni Moola Ganapathy and Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar. Between the aforesaid Sub Shrines there is another East facing Sub Shrine in which the Siddhar's Paadham or Divine Feet has been placed as an Idol. There are Sub Shrines for Chandikeshwarar and Dhakshinamoorthy. The Temple has a Madapalli or a Temple Kitchen. The entire Temple premises has been neatly cemented with granite stones. The Temple has massive car parking where several hundred cars could be parked. Anusham, Uthrathadi, Ammavasai, Ashtami, Pradhosham are celebrated with great fanfare. Special mid night Poojas are conducted during Full Moon Nights. This Temple is considered as Prarthanai Sthalam where Devotees could Pray for any thing.

In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Thillai Mahali Amman is seen in a standing posture. Local villagers bring their kids here to get them tonsured. Similarly Childless Couples Pray to this Goddess and tie a wooden toy cradle on the Tree situated before the Temple.
