Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Panaji, Goa

Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Goa was built in the year 1541 as a Chapel.  This Church is built on a small hillock facing Panjim City.  This Church is built by following the Baroque style of Architecture. The current structure was built in the 1600’s. There is a huge bell in this Church which is the second largest of its kind in Goa. The exterior of this Church is painted White to signify the Immaculate Virgin Mary. The interior is very colourful and the main Altar is dedicated to Mother Mary.  The other two Altars of this Church is beautifully decorated using gold platings.  On the left to the Main Altar Jesus Crusification can be seen and on the right Our Lady of the Rosary can be seen.  Both these Altars are flanked by the Statue of St. Peter and St. Paul.  During the December Festival of the immaculate Conception the entire Church complex is lit with coloured illuminated lights.   During this festival a Fair is conducted and this draws lots of  people from far flung areas.
