St.Philomena's Church, Mysore, Karnataka

This Church was built in the year 1840. This is one of the largest Church in India & second largest Church in entire Asia. King Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar built this majestic Church complex to fulfil the needs of Europeans living in Mysore. It took nearly 7 years to construct this magnificent Church. This Church was built following the Victorian style of architecture. This Church is a replica of Cologne Cathedral of Germany. The twin spires of this Church is 175 Feet height. The Intricately sculpted marble statue of St. Philomena was brought from France. The hall of this Church can accommodate 800 People. The French slasses of the Sanctum has Murals on various stages of Jesus such as Birth, Last Supper, Crucifixion & Ascension. The Pillars of this Church are beautifully crafted with Flower Patterns. Relics of St. Philomena is kept in the underground catacomb.
