The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Jagannath who is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Inside the Sanctum Sanctorum of this Temple we can find other Gods namely Balabadhra and Subdhra standing along with Lord Jagannath. These Idols are made out of Neem Logs and every 9 or 12 years the Presiding Deity is changed with the exact new replica. This Temple is one of the Char Dhum Temple. There are Sub Shrines for Sudarshana Chakra, Madanmohan, Sridevi and Vishwadhatri. King Anantavarman Chodaganga of Ganga Dynasty built this Temple in the 12th century CE. This Temple was invaded and plundered nearly 18 times and most recently in 1692 by the Mughal Emperor Aurangazeb who closed this Temple time and again. This Temple was reopened only after Aurangazeb's death in 1707. This Temple has the world's largest kitchen and Mahaprashadam is prepered every day using Holy Water of River Ganga and River Yamuna from the wells inside the Temple. This Temple's Car Festival is very famous and draws lakhs of Devotees from all over the World.
