Chandrapur is an important place in the state of Maharashtra. Shri Mahakali Mandir is a landmark Temple of Chandrapur. This Temple is built around 500 years ago on the Banks of River Zarpat which is a tributary of River Erai. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Shri Mahakali who is an incarnation of Goddess Shakthi or Sri Parvathy. The Presiding Deity is a solitary Moorthy and She is draped in yellow and orange fabrics and looks resplendent to the eyes of the Devotees. The second Moorthy is seen slightly below the ground level as a curled up Idol in a reclining posture. Devottes willing to see Her ought to pass through a narrow tunnel like passage which is a funny experience. It is believed that this Temple was built in the 16th century by King Dindya Ram Sah of the Gond Dynasty. All days of the week is busy in this Temple but Tuesdays are very auspicious here attracting a large number of Devotees. There are Sub Shrines for Sri Ganapathy and Sri Hanuman here. Likewise the Annual fair is held here in the month of April. The Temple Admin have built a Dharmashala or Choultries for the Devotees to stay here. This Temple has two entrance and Devotees can enter this Temple using eaither of this two entrances. There are thousands of shops outside the Temple Complex.
