Murdeshwar Temple has the World's 2nd Tallest Statue of Lord Shiva which stands around 123 feet tall. The Presiding Deity is Lord Shiva. This Temple is built on the Kanduka Hill which is surrounded on all 3 sides by the Arabian Sea. The Temple Gopuram stands East facing and is 237.5 feet tall and the Devotees can witness the awesome sight of the Shiva statue from there. The Rajagopuram has 20 floors and any Devotee can reach the top floor by a lift for which they levy a small fee. There are two lifts available but the Temple Admin have kept one lift permanently shut thereby making it too tough for the Devotees to go up and come down. The waiting time to purchase the lift ticket and the waiting time to enter the lift is too long. Also on reaching the top the ambiance there is so unclean and leaves a lot for the administration to keep the area clean. Anyhow the view from there is awesome. On either side of the Rajagopuram there is a pair of Elephant Idol. The huge Nandhi guards the entire Temple complex. The entire Temple complex has been modernized to the latest standards, barring ofcourse the Sanctum which still maintains its original reality. The Main Deity of the Temple is considered to be Sri Mridesa Linga which is believed to be a part of the Athma Linga. In the Sanctum, Lord Shiva graces His Devotees in the form of a Lingam, 2 feet below the ground level. There are Sub Shrine for Bagila Jattigeswara Devaru, Sri Dattatreya Devaru, Sri Ganapathi, Anjaneyar, Naga Devatha, Subramaniyar etc. Goddess Parvathi occupies a separate Sub Shrine opposite to which is a Navagraha enclosure. There is a Golden Chariot available and it has been safely enclosed. They have designed a hillock like replica where Dhakshinamoorthy is kept and Prayed. Behind the Temple is a hillock which is accesable either by foot or by a Vehicle. A huge Statue of Lord Shiva with an Ivory coloured Nandhi facing Him. On reaching the hillock there are Sub Shrines for Sundara Rameshwarar where white marble Idols of Lord Raama, Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneya are kept along with a Shiva Lingam. Next to it is a cave like structure named as Bhukailaya Musuem. This is an air conditioned musuem for which the Temple collects a small fee for each entrant. Close to it is a Sub Shrine for Lord Shaneeswaran who is found here in a Human form along with His Crow Vaahanam. A few meters away from this place is a Geethobhadhesam Idol where Lord Krishna tutors to Arjuna and they both are seated in a Chariot driven by four horses. Close to it is another Idol for Surya Bhagwan. The magnificence of the Shiva statue would leave any Devotee awestruck. Maha Shivarathiri during February would attract a large number of Devotees from far and near. There is a huge fort behind this Temple which is said to be renovated by King Tippu Sultan of Mysore. Sunset at Murdeshwar is a treat to watch for anyone. This Temple lies on the shore of the Arabian Sea and there are a lot of fun rides like Scuba Diving, Camel Riding, Horse Riding, Boating etc. There is a moving plastic bridge where visitors can walk for a few metres over the Arabian Sea.The Vendors collect a Fee from the visitors for all these rides from the Devotees visiting this Temple. The Temple has a Paid car Parking and some Vehicles are parked right on the shores of the Arabian Sea. There is a Restaurant built right on the edges of the Sea Water and there are several shops next to the Murudeshwar Temple.
