This Temple is also known as Bettada Shri Malahanikeshwara Swami Temple. This a hiltop Temple dedicated to Malahanikareswara, who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. His Consort here is known as Bhavani Ambal. The hilltop is referred as Eashwaragiri. There are two ways to reach the Temple 1) The Temple can be reached by around 150 footsteps which would reach the Temple's Main entrance. 2) There is a rickety motorable ghat road which leads to the posterior end of the Temple. The flight of stairs or the footsteps are etched at regular intervals with the Images of various Gods. The Temple has a four tiered East facing Rajagopuram and beyond it is a stone Dwajasthambam and a Bali Peedam. The Temple has been built on an elevated structure and hence few steps have to be climbed in order to reach the Maha Mandapam which has multiple stone pillars. Images of Sringeri Sankarachariars and the Kanchi Sankarachariars are hung on the walls of the Maha Mandapam. The original Lingam found in the Sanctum Sanctorum was worshipped by His Holiness Paramarishi Vibhandaka who was the son of Kashyapa. Sri Malahanikeshwara means the destroyer of all impurities. Apart from the Main Deity occupying the Sanctum Sanctorum there are Sub Shrines for Goddess Bhavani, Sthamba Ganapathi, Chandikeshwarar, Ganapathy and Durga. It is believed that the Vijayanagara KIngs replaced all wooden structures with rock solid stones giving a new look to this Temple. Likewise the magnetic black Nandhi was installed by Janganna Mallinataha during the regime of Somasekara Nayaks between 1664 to 1675. The Temple was fully renovated and a Consecration was performed in 1963. His Holiness Sri Abinava Vidyatheertha Swamiji added a four pillared Navagraha enclosure. The pillars have images of Veerabadra, Narasimha, Sri Rama, Hanuman, Subramanya, Venugopala, Kaalinganardhana, Durga and these were etched on the advice of Sri Adhi Sankara. Most of the construction work were taken up by skilled workers of Tamil Nadu who had an acumen for such Divine construction. The latest Kumbabishekam was performed on 11th February 1985 by Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Swamy along with Sri Bharathi Theertha Swamigal. Outside the Temple there are smaller Sub Shrines for Meenakshi Sachidanandeshwara, Kshetrabala and Bindhu Madhava who is flanked by His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. The Temple has its own Temple Kitchen or Madapalli for free Annadhanam and Prasadam distribution. There is a huge Peepal tree beneath which several Naga Devatha Idols are kept and Prayed. The Temple Admin are constructing newer Sub Shrines for various other Gods in the days to come. A Seva counter is located from where Devotees can buy tickets for special Darshans, Sevas, Sangalpam, Prasadam etc. Arudra Dharisanam, Maha Shivarathri, Radothsavam and Laksha Deepothsavam are celebrated in a grand mannner.
