This Temple is located in Alkur just 100 meters away from 12 Jyothirlinga Temple and it is believedd to have been built around 500 years ago.  It has a small Welcome Arch.  The Presiding Deity here is Mallikarjunaswamy who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. On entering the Temple there is a pedestal on which a stone Dwajasthambam is kept and close to it is a Naga Devatha Statue.  On entering the Main Temple both sides are neatly tiled with stone pillars which are so nice to see.  In the Sanctum Sanctorum Lord Shiva as Mallikarjuna Swamy is worshipped as a Lingam with the Serpant God standing guard as His Kavasam.  Behind Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy is God Vishnu made out of a black stone.  Both these Idols are said to be Swayambhu in nature.  This Temple is very unique since Maha Vishnu and Shiva occupy the same Sanctum Sanctorum and this is not found in many of the other similar Temple.  Facing the Sanctum Sanctorum is a huge black Idol of Nandhi Bhagwan.  On the threshold of the Sanctum Sanctorum is the Urchavamoorthy.  On the other side are Twin Vinayagars and Twin Shiva Lingams which are revered and Prayed.  A wooden Palanquine is available at the Temple premises to take the Urchavamoorthy around during important festive occasions.  There is a brass bell and an electric gong to be used on festival days and during important daily rituals.  On the outer peripheral of the Temple is an igloo shaped Sub Shrine in which God Mudhi Mallappa is kept in the form of a Shiva Lingam and Prayed.  This Sub Shrine has a steel gate.  There is a Vilva Tree which is considered very sacred and three Nandhi Bhagwans are kept beneath it.  The Temple seems to have built with rock solid walls and the Gopuram on top of the Sanctum Sanctorum is neatly white washed with a saffron flag fluttering on top of it.  The Temple has its own Madapalli or Temple Kitchen and Prasadams are offered to Devotees.  At the entrance of the Temple they have built a huge Pushkarani which almost seems to be like a well.  The entire Temple premises has a compound wall for itself and has been neatly white washed.  This Temple gains prominance due to the fact that Devotees who pray for Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy in Srisailam but could not go there can very well come to this Temple and offer their prayers to Alkur Mallikarjuna Swamy and this is accepted in the religious parlance.  Hence many people consider Alkur Mallikarjunaswamy on par with the Mallikarjuna Swamy in Srisailam.  Such is the power and might of this Presiding Deity.  Maha Shivarathiri is celebrated with great fan fare and almost all the villagers locally and Devotees from neighbouring villagers congregate here that time.
