Sri Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple in Devakottai is also called as Nagara Sivan Kovil by many. This Temple is located within Devakottai Town and the Temple has a huge compound wall and vehicles could be brought in and parked with effortless ease. There are two East facing five tiered Rajagopurams. The one on the right is that of Sri Sundareswarar and the one on the left is that of His Consort Sri Meenakshi. Both these Rajagopurams are connected by a wall atop which the Wedding Idols of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar are displayed. Leading to the Moolasthanam is a multi pillared Mandapam. There is a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a West facing Nandhi Vaahanam which is mounted on an elevated podium. Devotees may have to climb 5 to 6 steps to have Darshan of Sri Sundareswarar. There are two Dwara Baalaga Idols who stand guard on either side of the Sanctum Sanctorum. In the Moolasthanam Sri Sundareswarar is found East facing and in the form of Shiva Lingam. Close to the Moolasthanam the Urchavamoorthy Idols are arranged in tandem and safely enclosed. On the right is the 63 Naayanmaar Idols of the Urchavamoorthies. Around the Koshtam of Sri Sundareswarar there are Idols of Narthana Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar or Adimudi Kaataa Nathar, Brahmma, Vishnu Durgai and Chandikeshwarar. There is a Sub Shrine for Suyan and Chandran who overlook the Moolasthanam. The peripheral of the Temple has a North facing Naalvar Sub Shrine in which Sammandhar, Appar, Sundarar and Manikavasagar Idols are kept together. The 63 Naayanmaars black Idols are arranged in an order and are North facing. Apart from this there is a North facing Sub Shrine for Saraswathi. The following East facing Sub Shrines too are seen and they are as follows: Somaskandar, Maragatha Vinayagar, Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Bala Dhandayuthapani, Mahalakshmi, Subramaniyar flanked by Valli and Devasena. This Temple has various coloured Images of Sri Sundareswarar and Meenakshi. In the peripheral there is a South facing Sub Shrine of Natarajar, Sivagami Ambal, Manikavasagar, Sekkizhar and Bhairavar.
The Ambal Sannadhi has a five tiered East facing Rajagopuram. It can be entered either from outside or from within too, through the Sivan Sannadhi. There is a Dwajasthamabam, a Neivedhya Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Shrine of Sri Meenakshi Ambal. Just before entering Her Shrine there is an East facing Sub Shrine for Ganapathy on the left and another East facing Sub Shrine for Subramanyar on the right. The Ambal Sannadhi is slightly elevated and could be reached through 4 or 5 steps. There are two black Dwara Baalaki Idols standing guard and they are known as Jaya Dwara Sakthi and Vijaya Dwara Sakthi. In the Moolasthanam Sri Meenakshi Ambal is seen in a standing posture facing East. There is a golden coloour Gajalakshmi Idol painted atop the threshold of the Moolasthanam. Around Her Koshtam Gnana Sakthi, Kiriya Sakthi, Iccha Sakthi and Chandikeshwari are seen. A Palliyarai is visible in the close to Ambal's Shrine. The ceiling of the Ambal Sannadhi has a lovely and gorgeous coloured painting of Sri Meenakshi Ambal. Likewise they have hung 108 Ambal's framed pictures all around the Ambal's Shrine making it look eye appealing. A Navagraha Sannadhi is also found here.
The area within the Temple connecting the Sundareshwarar's Shrine with Sri Meenakshi's Shrine is called as Mahamandhira Upadesa Alangara Mandapam and they have erected a coloured Idol of an East facing Vinayagar who is seen in a seated posture. The Temple has a Madapalli or Temple Kitchen. Likewise the Ghoshala of this Temple is named as Pasumadam and they are maintaining it meticulously. A Temple Office functions within the Temple premises. There is a huge car parking area available within the Temple's compound. Opposite to the car parking is a huge Temple Tank or Pushkarani on the banks of which they have a built a Theerthavari Mandapam. Chithirai Brahmmothsavam, Pradosham, Maha Shivarathri, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Amavasya, Pournami, Arudhra Darisanam, Theipirai Ashtami, Navarathri, Shasti, Panguni Uthiram, are some of the festivals celebrated in a grand manner.
