The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Patalathri Narasimha Perumal and He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Ahobilavalli Thaayar. Lord Narasimha has four hands and in each hand He has a  Conch,  Chakra, Abaya Mudra and Uru Hasta.  This Temple is a Rock Cut Temple and this place was earlier called as Alwar Narsinga Devar and Narasinga Vinnagar Alwar.  This Temple was built by the Pallava Kings in the 8th Century and the initial Temple complex was built by following the Rock Cut Style of Pallava Architecture. This Temple is known as Padalathri or Patalathri in Sanskrit. The inscriptions here tell us that King Raja Raja Chola had donated 26 Sheep to this Temple.  This Temple is built on a 1.5 acre of land and has two Precincts. There is a Shrine for Lord Ugra Narasimha and he could be seen with a third eye on His forehead which indicates His anger.  There are Sub Shrines for Lords Garuda, Lakshmi Narasimha, Ramanuja, Manavala Maamunigal, Vishwaksena and Saints like Aandal and Alwars. Festival like Chithirai Brahmothsavam, Pavithrothsavam, Theppothsavam and  Narasimhar Jayanthi are celebrated in a grand manner.
