Punnaiyadi draws its name from the word Punnai which means Punnai Maram. Since this area has a lot of Punnai Maram the entire area was called as Punnaiyadi or Punnai Nagar. This is a twin Temple comprising of Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple and Sri Adhi Narayanar Temple. Both these Temples are East facing with three tiered Rajagopurams respectively and they both are located within the same premises. There is a huge temporary roofing on the anterior for the safety of the Devotees visiting this Temple. This Temple has two entrances one for Lord Srinivasa Perumal and the other for Lord Adhi Narayana Perumal. To begin with, there is an East facing Sub Shrine for Sri Raja Ganapathy who is located between the twin Temples. There is a gold plated Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam along with a Dwajasthambam. The gold plated Kodimaram or Dwajasthambam seems to pierce the roof and go skywards. On entering the Srinivasa Perumal Temple there are Divine Vaahanams on the left side. Next to it is a Thulabaaram facility and to the rear of this Thulabaaram a coloured Idol of Srinivasa Perumal flanked on either side by Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi could be seen. The silver plated Chakarathalwar and Yoga Narasimhar looks dazzling and attractive to the eyes of the Devotees. There is a Garudalwar Sannadhi overlooking the Srinivasa Perumal in the Moolasthanam. There are two Dwara Baalakas on either side of the threshold of the Sanctum Sanctorum. There is an Urchavar Idol along with Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi and they are kept on top of a Palanquin. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Srinivasa, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Srinivasa along with His Consort Goddess Padmavathy Thaayar Blesses His Devotees. The Presiding Deity stands facing East which is similar to that of the Presiding Deity of Thirupathi. Sun rays falling on the Holy Hands of Lord Srinivasa is the unique factor of this Temple. Around the Koshtam of Srinivasa Perumal the Idols of Vinayagar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Guruvayurappan, Brahmma and Vishnu Durgai are seen. This is a rare phenomenon which is genrally seen only in Saivaite Temples. In the inner peripherals there are Sub Shrines for Goddess Padmavathy, Vadapalani Aandavar, Thirumuruga Kripananda Variar, Sengamala Thaayar with Mannai Rajagopalaswamy, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar and Aandal Sannadhi. To the rear of these, is a Thulasi Maadam area where various Divine Vaahanams, a Vishnu Paadam, a Palanquin etc are kept. The Dasavathaaram Idols, Sri Ramanujar, Sri Rama Pattabishekam, Sri Devi Bhoo Devi Samedha Malayappa Swamy, Maha Vishnu Vishwaroopa Darishanam, Gajendra Mooksham, Srinivasa Perumal along with Padmavathy Thaayar and Geethobadesam coloured Idols are all neatly kept within a glass panel and they are all a treat to watch for those Devotees who visit this Temple. There is a Baktha Anjaneya Sub Shrine too.
The next Shrine in this twin Temple is that of Sri Aadhi Narayana Perumal who has China Palavesham and Periya Palavesham as His Dwara Baalakas. It is believed that Lord Shiva dwels in the bosom of Sri Aadhi Narayana Perumal. To the left of this is the Sub Shrine of Sivanaindha Perumal who is believed to be partly Maha Vishnu and partly Lord Shiva. Closeby is another Sub Shrine where Sivagami, Brahmma Sakthi and Sri Pechi. The Idols of Pookann Palavesam, Sappanimuthu, and Laadaguru Sanyasi are seen in a Sub Shrine. Likewise the Idols of Muthupillai Amman, Sri Irulappar and Nattani Palavesam are seen in another Sub Shrine closeby. Life size Idols of Sudalai and Mundan are eye captivating. Apart from this there is a Navagraha Sannadhi as is found in other Temples. This Aadhi Narayana Temple is considered to be more than 300 years old whereas the adjoining Srinivasa Perumal Temple is just 15 years. Both these Temples has been taken care and splendidly renovated by Late.Rajagopal of Hotel Saravana Bhavan. Late Rajagopal was a disciple of Thirumuruga Kripanandha Variar and together they had a big hand in shaping this Temple to this level. A Prasadha Stall and another Stall for selling Divine articles are located within the Temple. Marriages are performed here and facilities for Tonsuring is available. There is a huge car parking available next to the Temple premises.
