 The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Ranganathar, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This Temple is also known Bhoologa Vaikuntam or  Thiruvaranga Tirupati. This Temple is one of the largest religious complex in the world. This Temple is located in an Island Town Srirangam, surrounded by River Kaveri and River Kollidam. This Temple is constructed based on Sapta-Prakaram design and by following the Dravidian style of Architecture. This Temple complex dates back to 1st millennium CE. The Temple which was first constructed by Chola King Dharma Varma was destroyed by the floods of River Kaveri and later it was renovated by King Killivalavan. Srirangam Temple is India's largest temple compound and one of the world's greatest religious complexes. The Ranganathaswamy Temple is constructed in Hindu architectural style and is believed to be constructed during the Vijayanagara period (1336–1565). The Temple follows and worships the Thenkalai tradition of Sri Vaishnavism. This Temple is surrounded by 7 gigantic Gopurams and huge walls measuring over 6 miles or 32,592 feet. There are 21 Gopurams, 39 Pavillions, 50 Shrines & Sub Shrines, 9 Temple Tanks for Devotees to take a Holy Dip. The Ayiram Kaal Mandapam or Hall with 1000 Pillars is made out of Granite. It is believed that this Temple complex had it's own hospital or Arokyashala for people's Medical needs. The Ranga Vilas mandapam is one where the devotees could take rest.  The Rajagopuram is the second tallest Temple tower in the world rising to a height of 72 mts. The walls of the Temple complex are painted with exquisite paintings using herbal and vegetable dyes. They speak volumes about the culture and tradition followed  during thise days. There are scores of Vahanaas for Sri Raganathar to mount upon and go round.  The Garuda vahana, Simha vahana, Yanai vahana, Kudirai vahana, Hanumantha Vahana, Yazhi vahana, Sesha vahana, Annapakshi Vahana, Otrai and ettai Prabhai vahana are all examples of unmatched beauty. To see Lord Ranganatha get  mounted on them is a treat to watch especially as he moves along the streets of Srirangam inch by inch amongst a sea of devotees is simply jaw dropping for any devotee to see and enjoy. Especially the Elephant Vaahanam or Yaanai Vaahanam is a joy since this elephant is not an ordinary elephant like but its a rare vaahanam where the elephant has 4 tusks instead of the usual 2.
