This Temple is also called as Sri Thirumuruganathaswamy Temple and is located in Thirumuruganpoondi in Avinashi Taluk of Thiruppur District. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Thirumuruganathar alias Sri Avudainayakar and He is an incarnation of God Shiva. His Consort here is Sri Avudainayaki or Sri Mangalambigai. Some refer Her name as Goddess Sri Muyangupoon Mulaiyammai. This is one among the 276 Thevara Paadal Petra Sthalam and the 2nd Shiva Sthalam in Kongu Naadu. The Temple has no Rajagopuram and instead a Karungal Sthupam is present before the Temple as in the case of most Kongu Nadu Shiva Temples. The Temple is supposed to have been built in the 9th century.
At the outset there is a small East facing Amman Sannadhi with a Neivedhya Peedam and a Simha Vaahanam. Then there is another East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Rajaganapathy beneath an intertwined Peepal and Neem Trees. Flanking the Idol of Sri Rajaganapathy is Sri Raahu and Sri Kethu Bhagwan. It is to be mentioned here that Devotees who visit this Sub Shrine must keenly watch the rear side of His face in the mirror installed in this Sub Shrine. He is seen standing along with His Consorts Valli and Devasena. It is believed that King Soorapadman tortured the Devars and imprisoned them and killed many. Fearing their lives they pleaded to God Shiva who sent Sri Murugan with His Divine Army and vanquished Soorapadman and his entire army. Since Sri Murugan had killed many in this battle He wanted to get rid of His Brammahathi Dosham and so He installed a Shiva Lingam which came to be known as Thirumuruganathaswamy. His Consort here is known as Sri Muyangu Poonmulai Valliammai. Some refer Her as Sri Avudainayagi too.
