The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sundareswarar and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Abhirami Ambal. This Temple is one of the Pancha Krosha Sthalam and is built in the banks of River Kaveri. This Temple is also considered to be one of the Thevara Vaipu Sthalam. It is believed that This Temple was built by Chola Kings and later Renovated by Kulothunga Chola III. Like other Temple this Temple also has a Dwajastambam and a Sacred Tank and Devotees are allowed to take a holy Dip in it. Chithirai Brahmotsavam, Adi Pooram, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Avani, Puratasi Navarathri, Skandasashti, Thirukarthigai are celebrated in a grand Manner.
