Kodungallur is around 40 Kms away from Thrissur. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Mahadeva and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Umadevi and She is none other than Parvathi. This Temple was built by the Kings of Chera Dynasty. The Temple is unique since it is the only Temple in Kerala with 33 Sub Shrines for various Deities. It has Rajagopurams on all four sides of the Temple and the Sanctum Sanctorum is in the centre of the premises. This Temple has been praised by the Nayanmars in Thevaram because of which this Temple is considered as one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam that is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This Temple is one of the ancient Temple of Kerala. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is also considered as the Family God of the Cochin Royal Family. This Temple is built by following the typical Kerala Style of Architecture. It also has beautiful murals depicting all Hindu Mythology. Vaisaka Pournami Brahmmothsavam is the annual 10-day festival which is celebrated in a grand way. Special poojas are also performed during many Hindu festivals and on auspicious days. This Temple is under the care and custody of The Archaeological Survey of India.
