The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Vedharanyeswarar who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva.  He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Vedanyaki. This is 125th Shivan Temple on the Southern  Banks of River Kaveri and this has been  praised in Thevaram and is considered as a Paadal Petra Sthalam.  In this  Temple at Vedharanyam,  Lord Shiva is seen as a Self Manifested or Swayambumoorthy.  This is the only Temple to have three different Flag Staff for Lord Shiva, Goddess  Ambika and for Lord Vinayaka. The Temple's sacred tank  (Pushkarani) is called as Manikarnika Theertham.  It is believed that taking a Holy Dip in this Theertham  is considered on par with taking a holy dip in River Yamuna, River Ganga, River Narmadha, River Indus and River Cauvery and will bring enormous benefits to the Devotees who take such holy dip.  There is a sea near this Temple called as Aadhi Sethu and it is believed that taking a Holy dip in this Sea is equal to taking hundreds of Dip in the Rameshwaram Sea.  Devotees visiting this Temple place a Cradle in order to get a Child Boon.  The  29 Day Masi Magham, Aadi Pooram, Skandha Sasthi, Vinakaya Chathurthi, Makara Shankaranthi and Mahashivarathri  are celebrated in a grand manner.
