This Place is also known as a Gurumoorthi Sthalam since much importance is given to guru bhagavan. The Preisiding Dieity of this Temple is Lord Shiva who is known here as Pranava Vyagrapureeswarar. He is also known as Thuyartheertha Nathar. He Consort Goddess Parvathi is known by the name poongodi Nayaki or Puspkalathambikai. This Temple has been sung in thevaram and is the 31st Temple on the northern banks of River Kaveri. Saint Thirunavukarasar says that since many poojas (homam) are done here in a continious manner this place has derived that name Omampuliyur. Lord Dakshinamoorthi gets prominence in this Temple. The Temple tank is said to be very sacred. Once King Sadhanandhan who was a great Shiva Devotee and who was afflicted with leprosy took bath here and got rid of his Leprosy Disease. Festivals like Poosam Masi Magam, Navarathri and Shivarathri are celebrated ina grand manner here
