Athar Jamad Masjid  is one of the oldest and largest Mosque in entire Coimbatore City  located in Oppanakaara Street, Prakasam Corner, Ukkadam and has a  great history attached to it.  A perfume merchant named Athar migrated from Thirunelveli and built this massive structure.  The construction of this Mosque was started in the year 1860 and was completed in the year 1904.  It took nearly 40 years to construct this magnificent Mosque complex. This Mosque also has a huge library inside it’s complex. There is a  Kitchen attached to this Mosque from where Fasting Soup is prepared and distributed to  people during Ramzan fasting period. This Mosque complex has many towers and domed roof.   This Mosque is so big that its Prayer Hall could easily accomodate around 2000 Worshippers at that time.  The entire Mosque windows are fitted with stained and coloured glasses.  Carpets are neatly laid on the flooring so that the Worshippers here could kneel peacefully and offer Prayers and Namaaz.  Many visit here from neighbouring areas too on Fridays, Bakrid and Ramzan Days
