Gor pertains to Grave and hence this Persian name Goripalayam or Ghoripalayam  is given to this part of Madurai Metro. This region is called as Goripalayam in light of the fact that the graves of the two popular holy people of Islam and leaders of Madurai Hazrat Sulthan Alauddin Badusha and Hazrat Sulthan Shamsuddin Badhusha (Radiyallah) are here.Its a large  large mosque in Goripalayam, which ia a part of Madurai City containing two graves (tombs) of Sultans of Yemen  namely Khaja Syed Sultan Alauddin Badusha Razi and Khaja Syed Sulthan. Some even say that this Dargah was built by the Thriumalai Nayaks for his Muslim friends. The Mosque has been built very close to River Vaigai. The inscriptions found here  is considered as a piece of evidences to prove the existence of the Dargah since 13th century.  The anniversary Urus festival of this dargah is held on 15th night of the Islamic month
