The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Oppiliappan. He is also known as Uppiliappan or Oppu Illa Appan here.  Still some Devotees call Him as Thiruvinnagar Appan and Thirunageswaram as Thiruvinnagaram or Agasa Nagaram.  He is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and also considered as the elder brother of Lord Balaji at Tirupathy. Any offering that is prayed to the Thirupathi Balaji Temple and which could not be fulfilled by going there could be achieved by coming here and completing the fulfillment promise. Goddess Bhoodevi along Markandaya Maharishi and Lord Santhanakrishnan are found together along with the Presiding Deity in the Sanctum Sanctorum. There are Sub Shrines for Lord Muthappan, Maniappan, Ramar, Hanuman, Desikar, Ramanujar, Mannudayar and Garudan. This Temple was built by the Chola Kings and was later developed by the Nayakas of Tanjavur. There is a five tiered Rajagopuram and the entire Temple complex has a Granite Compond Wall. This Temple is considered as one of the 108 Divya Desam that is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The Vimanam of this Temple is covered using Gold Plating and called as Suddhananda Vimanam. There is a Huge Sacred Tank called Ahorathra Pushkarani or Pagalira Poigai.  The Temple has a special area marked within its premises for making the Divine Kumkum.  There is a Ghoshala within the Temple premises.  The Temple has two big wedding halls within its premises near the Dwajasthambam and several marriages pertaining to the Devotees's families are performed here.  The Temple also has a small Chariot.  There is a Nandavanam all around the Temple and Tulasi Plants are fondly grown and taken care of.  There is a Temple Tusker named Bhooma along with a Mahout and it draws huge attention from the kids and other Devotees coming here.  The Temple has also built a concrete shelter not only for the Elephant but also for the Mahout to stay within the Temple premises.  Festivals like Prarthana Festivals, Sri Ramanavami, Float Festival, Vasantha Utsavam, Brahmmothsavam and Pavithrothsavam are celebrated in a grand manner with Devotion and Dedication. Sravana Nakshthram is another important day since it happens to be the Nakshthram of Oppiliappan Himself and so on Sravam days the Temple draws huge number of Devotees from far and near who come here with a Sravana Viratham.  In recent days Devotees coming here mention this Temple as Dakshin Tirupathi.  Oppiliappan is considered as the elder brother of Thirumalai Balaji and hence any Devotee praying for Tirupathi Venkatachalapathy Perumal but unable to go there could visit Thirunageswaram and fulfill their desires and wishes before God Uppiliappan.  The Temple's Prasadham is unique since salt is never added to it but Devotees tasting it would say that they could not feel any difference.  This is the miracle and the mesmerizing effect of Oppiliappan.  Many Devotees in Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and natives of these areas residing in any part of India and abroad would have the name UPPILI for one of their male child.  The Temple has a Nandhavanam and a Temple Chariot for its use.  Many Devotees pray and have their head tonsured here for which they have earmarked a place in the outer precincts.  Though the Temple does not have any carparking, Devotees can park their vehicles on the streets around the Temple.
