This Temple is also called as Thirunaraiyur Nambi Temple. Nachiyar Kovil is very close to Kumbakonam. Lord Vishnu as Srinivasa Perumal is the Presiding Deity. The Moolavar is also known as Sri Vasudevan, Paripooranan, Nambi and Srinivasan. Goddess Lakshmi is known as Nachiyar.  She is also called as Vanjulavalli.  Nachiyar gains prominence than even the Presiding Deity. The Urchavamoorthies are Srinivasa Perumal and Vanjulavalli Thaayar. This is one of the 108 Divya Desam for Lord Vishnu. The Rajagopuram consists of five tiers.  Devotees have to pass through 3 successive Gopurams to reach the Sanctum Sanctorum and in between are the Bali Peedam and a huge metalic Dwajasthambam. Kal Garudan is made of Saligramam. Kalgarudan is believed to increase and decrease its weight spontaneously. There are Shrines for Lord Rama, Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneyar, likewise there are Sub Shrines for Chakrathalwar and Yoga Narasimhar. There are Sannadhis for Manavala Maamunigal and Vedantha Desigar.  The Temple has an exclusive Sorga Vaasal.  Built in the 3rd Century AD by Kochengat Cholan. The Chola Rulers started building this Temple but it was the Vijayanagara Rulers who developed it fully. The Temple has been built on the Dravidian style of Architecture. There is a 100 Pillared Hall and a small Mandapam where small religious functions could be held.  The Southern side of the Temple has a Nandhavanam where the Sthala Viruksham Magizha Maram is kept.  There is a Sacred Tank or a huge Pushkarani called Manimutha Theertham. Saint Nambiyandar Nambi was born in this Temple Town.  The Temple celebrates Vasantha Urchavam, Thiru Kalyana Urchavam, Mukkodi Theppa Vizha and Panguni Brammothsavam in a large scale and in a grand manner. The Temple follows the Thengalai Sampradayam. There are lots of shops selling Pooja articles such as fruits, flowers, garlands, coconuts etc. The Temple does not have any car parking area and hence Devotees are forced to park their vehicle in the neighbouring streets around the Temple.
