Gayatri Sakthipeeth Shri Chamundamatha Temple is located in a place called Mehron Ko Bass or Mehrangarh Fort in Gulab Sagar on the outskirts of Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Sri Chamunda Matha is highly respected and regarded since She is said to be an incarnation of Goddess Shakthi. The Presiding Deity of Goddess Shri Chamunda Matha was installed here in the year 1460 by the Ruler and Founder of Jodhpur Shri Rao Jodha since She was his Ishta Devatha or the Family Deity of Sri Rao Jodha who belongs to the Royal family of Jodhpur. It is widely believed that the Omnipotent Goddess Gayatri Sakthipeet Shri Chamunda Mata turned Herself into an Eagle to save the City of Jodhpur. Hence it is said that Shri Chamunda Mata is a fierce protector of this place.

The Architecture of the Temple is typically Rajasthani and the Temple has a beautiful Archway with intricate carvings of all Gods and Goddess. The walls of the Temple have beautiful paintings and stucco Images from the Epics Ramayana and Mahabharatha. The Gold plated central dome of the Temple makes it look accentuated and more appealing to the eyes of the Devotees. Inside the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Shri Chamunda Mata is surrounded by a squarish courtyard. The Presiding Deity is made of a black marble and She looks dazzling to the eyes of the Devotees since She is adorned with gold and silver ornaments. She is seen in a sitting posture and flanked by the Idols of Sri Hanuman and Sri Bhairava.

The History behind the Temple is that Rao Jodha was fond of this place and wanted to build a Temple for Shri Chamunda Mata. To his utter dismay he could not do so since there was a Sage sitting in the place and meditating. Several requests and pleas of Rao Jodha fell on the deaf ears of the Sage due to the pressure and persistance of Rao Jodha the Sage left the place in a huff but cursed Rao Jodha that this place would be devoid of Water. Rao Jodha then sought the Blessings and on the advice of Elders and other priests he build this Temple with great success. Thousands of Devotees visit this Temple every day during the period of Dussera Days. Now even many of the commoners Worship this Deity as their favourite Goddess. Devotees with traditional dress are always welcome here. The Temple charges a minimum fee for photography and videography.
