This Temple is also known as Ponmalai Nadhar Temple. This Temple is located on a small hillock named Kanagachalam or Ponmalai. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Kanakagirieswarar or Pon Malai Nathar and His Consort can be seen at the foot hills. This Temple is located aorund 500 feet above the sea level. It is believed that this Temple is thousand years old and was built by the Chola Kings. Though this Temple was built by Chola Kings, it was Kings of Vijayanagara Empire who developed this Temple to it's current structure. There is a Periyanayagi Temple in the South-West direction of this Temple. Here Lord Shiva can be seen as a self manifested or Swayambu Lingam. This Temple has a three tiered Rajagopuram. There is a Huge Nandhi which looks Majestic. This Temple has Sub Shrines for God and Goddesses like Vinayaka, Murugan, Dakshinamoorthy, Chandikeswarar, Agora Veerabadra and Saptha Mathas. There is a Shrine for Aladi Vinayagar at the mid point of this Hill. This Temple has a 36 pillared Mandapam and it is considered as an Architectural Marvel. This Temple is famous for it's Navaraikunjaram sculpture in it's inner Praharam. There are several Pig sculptures to stop the Islamic invaders from plundering and destroying this Temple in those days. Panguni Uthiram, Karthikai Panchami, Aipasi Annabhishekam and Karthikai Deepam are celebrated in a grand manner.
