Gaya is considered by many as a Sacred City in the State of Bihar. This Sakthi Peeth Temple is actually located on a small hillock and Devotees may have to climb and reach the top. It is actually located in the South Central part of Bihar around 100 Kms away from the State Capital of Patna. The City is situated on the Banks of River Phalgu (Niranjana). Gaya is a highly sought after place for Hindus, Buddhists and Jains alike. Sri Mangla Devi Temple is located in Bihar on the Manglagauri Hills. There is a West facing entrance and Devotees may have to climb a few steps before they reach the level of the Temple premises. The Temple is East facing and is of prime importance to the Hindus. It is one of the 18 Maha Sakthipeet that has been mentioned in various holy scriptures and Buddhists writings including the Padma Purana, Agni Puruna, Vayu Purana, Markandeya Purana and Bhagawatha Purana. The East facing Temple could be reached either by footsteps or through a motorable ghat road in which private vehicles are allowed to ply.

Actually there is no main Idol of the Presiding Deity of Sri Maa Mangla Gauri. Instead within the Sanctum Sanctorum there is a Breast shaped rocky structure which is well lit and illuminated by oil lamps and holy flames. These naturally lit oil lamps are seen throughout the year and it is a treat to see the Idol of the Presiding Deity in the background of these oil lamps. The Presiding Deity of Goddess Mangala Gauri is said to be Omnipotent and very Powerful. It is said that She is the creator of the Universe and is also believed to be a Symbol of Benovolence. Many consider Her as one of the Miracle Gods who has saved Mother Earth during all previous catastrophes and would save Earth in future too. Likewise the Sanctum Sanctorum is too small to accomodate several Devotees at the same time. Therefore Devotees are allowed to go there in twos and threes. A small corridors or a Mandapam is seen before the Temple. There are Sub Shrines for Mahadev or Shiva, Sri Mahaisasura Mardhini, Sri Durga and Sri Dakshin Kaali.

The Temple has a West facing Sub Shrine of Shri Maha Mangleshwar Mahadev in which a Shivaling is seen and facing this Divine Shivaling is a much bigger East facing Nandhi Bhagwan. There is a huge Tree or a Viruksh beneath which a huge West facing Idol of Shri Bhairav is seen. The Temple also has a small North facing Sub Shrine of Shri Ganapathy. Devotees can circumambulate the Temple through its peripheral and there is an East facing Sub Shrine of Shri Durgamatha with a black Idol. Likewise close to this is another South facing Sub Shrine of Shri Kalimatha. There is yet another South facing Sub Shrine in which the white marble twin Idols of Shri Maha Kali and Shri Mahalakshmi. Tuesdays and Shravan months draws many Devotees here. Male Devotees can enter the Temple either with Pant or Dhoti while Female Devotees are allowed with a Saree, Salwar Kameez with Duppatta. Unmarried Women Devotees come here to get their marriage fulfilled.
