The Preisiding Deity of this Temple is Goddess Mumba Devi and She is also called as Goddess of Shakthi. Initially this Temple complex was built near Bori Bunder in the year 1675 but it was destroyed and was later reconstructed in Zaveri Bazar in this year 1737. The Mumbai City is named after the Presiding Deity of this Temple. The fishermen belonging to Koli Community who are early inhabitants of this Mumbai City and Dravidians show their respect to the Mumba Devi in a grand manner. This Temple is built in a busy market  area and there are hundreds of flower shops on  either sides of this Temple street. The Presiding Deity is decorated using a Silver Crown, a Golden Necklace and a Nose stud. There are sub shrines for Lords Hanuman and Ganapathy. This Temple attracts thousands of Devotees not only from Mumbai but also from other part of the globe who visit  Mumbai city as tourists.
