Gandhinagar is the Capital of Gujarat and it is built on the banks of River Sabarmathi close to Ahmedabad. Its a planned City with notable landmarks and Temples. The Temple is called as Shree Dholeshwar Mahadev Temple and is close to Randesan area. It is considered as a very old Temple existing from the times of Mahabharatha. There is a strong belief that the Pancha Pandavas had come to this Temple and had stayed here for a couple of days when they had been banished from their Kingdom. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is none other than God Shiva Himself. The Temple has been mentioned in all the Old Puranas including that of the Shiva Perana. A visit to this Temple is considered on par on visiting Kasi Temple in Varanasi. It is widely believed that Sri Indra Bhagwan had built this Temple based on typical Hindu culture and traditions. The fabled story behind this Temple says that a particular White Cow went to a particular place for grazing and stood there in one place and poured its Milk there at a particular spot almost daily. The Cowherds who saw this went to that place and dug that area and found out a Swayambhu White Shiva Lingam and hence the name Shree Dholeshwar.
The recently built Welcome Arch leads to the Temple and looks attractive when seen froma distance. The two black Bulls kept on either side facing the Sanctum Sanctorum are a real beauty to watch when seen by the Devotees. The Sanctum Sanctorum of this temple is resplendent and awe inspiring that devotees on seeing it will stand rooted and may hesitate to move away easily. This Mighty Shri Dholeshwar Mahadev is said to grant Boons to all His Devotees coming and Praying here. Shravan months are considered as auspicious to visit this Temple in Gandhinagar. Maha Shivarathri is celebrated in a grand manner. Shiva Devotees from different parts of Gujarath and all other States visit this Temple every day to get the Blessing of Shri Dholeshwar Mahadev.
