Arulmigu Meenakshi Chokkanatha Swamy Temple is located in Aruppukkottai Town. In earlier days Aruppukkottai was called as Chockalingapuram. In the year 1216 Thirubhuvana Chakkaravarthy known as Maaravarman Sundarapandiyan built this Temple as a Guru Saabha Nivarthi Sthalam. The Temple has a five tiered East facing coloured Rajagopuram and they have erected a temporary roofing before the Rajagopuram which hinders the full view. To the left is a Sub Shrine of Ganapathy who is found East facing and flanking Him are the Raahu and Kethu Idols. There is a coloured Gopuram in which the Meenakshi Chokkanathar's Wedding and other Divine Idols are displayed. At the outset there is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam, a Dwajasthambam or Kodimaram and a Nandhi Vaahanam mounted on a podium facing the Moolasthanam. Devotees have to climb five to six steps and there are two Dwara Baalaka Idols there who stand guard. Next to one of the Dwara Baalaga Idol is a small Vinayagar Idol. There are two gold plated thresholds on leading to the Moolasthanam and before one of these threshold is an Idol of Vinayagar and Murugan. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Chokkanadha Swamy is seen in the form of a Shiva Lingam. The Sub Shrine of Natarajar would keep any Devotee spell bound. This Sub Shrine has gold plated threshold and even the inner walls are gold plated. In this ambience Natarajar and Sivagami together look eye captivating and just before their threshold are two Idols of Pathanjali Munivar and Vyakarapaadhar. There is a North facing Saraswathi Sub Shrine which looks amazing and opposite to Her they have etched a Kallaala Maram on a gold plating. Around the Koshtam the Idols of Dakshinamoorthy, Lingothbhavar or Annamalaiyar, Durgai, Lakshmi, Chandikeshwarar and Valla Siddhar are seen. Opposite to the South facing Dhaksinamoorthy Idol are the Idols of Sapthamathas made of gold plating. In between Chokkanathar's Shrine and Ambal's Shrine is the Shrine of Somaskandar.
The Ambal Shrine has two gold plated thresholds. On the inner threshold two Dwara Baalagi Images are embossed whereas on the outer threshold there is an Idol of Vinayagar and Murugan on either side. The Ambal's Shrine is East facing and She is also known as Sri Meenakshi Ambal or Arunthava Nachiyar. Sri Meenakshi Ambal is seen in a standing posture. Her Shrine does not have a Dwajasthambam but instead there is a Nandhi Vaahanam facing Her Moolasthanam. Around the Koshtam of the Ambal's Shrine the Idols of Iccha Sakthi, Kiriya Sakthi and Gnana Sakthi are seen.
In the outer peripheral the 63 Naayanmaars are kept in tandem and they are North facing. Likewise Vinayagar, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Naga Devathas, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar are found East facing. The Temple has a Navagraha Sannadhi and an Oonjal Mandapam located closeby. There is a West facing Sub Shrine of Kaala Bhairavar and He is most sought after. Sri Surya Bhagwan is found along with His Consorts Usha and Prathiyusha whereas Chandra Bhagwan is found with His Consorts Rohini and Kiruthigai facing the Moolasthanam. The Sthala Viruksham is a Vilva Maram and the Theertham is Surya Pushkarani. The Temple has a Madapalli and a huge Annadhana Koodam which is built on the anterior side. To the right of the Rajagopuram is a small stage wherein Divine Rituals could be conducted with ease. The Temple allows Marriages to be performed here provided all proof of evidence and other documents are furnished. The Temple has a huge compound wall and even vehicles could be parked within. There are two Temple Chariots located outside the Compound wall but they are safely enclosed and kept. There is a marriage hall known as Subburaj Kalyana Mandapam where Marriages could be conducted. There is a Temple Office functioning within its premises. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner.
