Sri Suddha Rathineshwarar Temple is also called as Panjanathanar Natarajar Temple and it is located in Oothathur. The sub road leading from the main road goes through many crusher units and dried up lands all around. The Temple has a seven tiered East facing Rajagopuram. This is an ancient Temple dating back to the 7th century and it is believed that King Raja Raja Chola took keen interest and promoted the Temple to this level. His son Rajendra Cholan and his grandson Rajadhi Raja Cholan too evinced great interest in promoting this Temple. It is said that one of the lady dancers during the Kulothunga Cholan III days had built the Shrine for the Ambal which goes on to show how pious people were in those days. Later the Naayak Rulers erected the massive compound wall all around the Temple. On entering the Temple through the open corridor there are two Bali Peedams, a Dwajasthambam and a black Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Sanctum Sanctorum. The Temple has many premium pillars with intricate carved etchings and the Temple has been built on a five acre land. The ceiling near the Dwajasthambam dazzles with 27 Stars, 12 Sun Signs and 9 Planets all neatly etched. It is one rare Temple where the Divine Brahmma Theertham is located between the Dwajasthambam and the Moolasthanam. At the threshold of the Moolasthanam are a pair of Dwara Baalakas. Totally there are 4 Nandhi Vaahanam out of which one Nandhi Vaahanam is located away from the centre and it faces the Dwajasthambam instead of facing the Moolavar. Sri Suddha Rathineshwarar as the name suggests is the purest of Gems and He is found in the Sanctum Sanctorum as a Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. It is very odd and rare to see the Swayambhu Shiva Lingam slightly tilted. There is said to be a Scar Mark on the Shiva Lingam since it is believed that He bore these marks when being excavated from the soil before being installed here. Sri Suddha Rathneswarar who is an incarnation of Shiva is also known here as Uli Padaa Thirumeni. The amazing fact of this Temple is that when viewed from the rear of the Moolasthanam the entire beam, pillars and the Sanctum Sanctorum itself is slightly tilted towards one side and this is visible to any Devotees viewing it and this makes the Temple very special and unique. His Consort occupies another Shrine in a multi pillared mandapam and She is East facing and known by the name Akilandeswari Ambal. There are Sub Shrines for 63 Nayanmaars, Periya Somaskandar, Urchavar Subramaniyar, Valli Devasena Samedha Subramaniyar, Kodi Ganapathy, Sri Samba Parameshwarar, Sri Kailasanahar, Adhikara Nandhi, Gajalakshmi, Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Saraswathi, Karthyayini, Kala Bhairavar and Navagraha Sannadhi. Around the Koshtam there are Idols for Narthana Ganapathy, Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Durgai and Chandikeshwarar. The Sthala Viruksham is Vilva Maram while to Sacred Tank is known as Brahmma Theertham. Pradosham, Masi Magam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Navarathri, Karthigai, Chitra Pournami, Vinayagar Chaturthi, Diwali, Tamil New Year and Amavasya are celebrated in a grand manner.
The Panchanathana Natarajar Shrine which is South facing is an all important one. He is found here along with His Consort Sivagama Sundari Ambal. The Idol is made out of Panchanathana Stone and it is believed that Devotees with severe Kidney problems would get rid of it if they come and Pray to Lord Natarajar and offer a Vettiver garland consisting of 48 patches which is being sold here. Apart from this they ought to perform an Abhishekam and take home the Vettiver Garland. The Garland containing 48 patches should be into 48 pieces and each piece has to be immersed in the water at home and the Kidney patient ought to drink this Divine Water for a period of 48 days. Once this is done there will be a gradual improvement in the condition of such Kidney patients.
