Sri Bodyguard Muneeswaran Temple is located on Pallavan Salai between the Government Bus Depot and Chennai Central Railway Station. It is the Kula Deivam or Village Deity of several people living in and around Chennai City. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Muniswaran and He is also called as Bodyguard Muneeswaran. The Presiding Deity of this Temple was installed under a Neem Tree near the Barrack by people who came to Madras from North Arcot District in the year 1919. One of the British Commander objected to this and  on the very same day he met with an accident.  He thought that this accident had  taken place due to the Divine Power and understood the Supremacy of the Lord. Hence there was no objection to the Deity from that point of time.  Many Devotees perform Poojas to their New Vehicles in this Temple so that they get protected from road accidents and other problems. Devotees offer Pumpkins, Coconuts, Lemon to Lord Bodyguard Muniswaran in order to show their respect. On New moon day thousands of Devotees visit this Temple to get the Blessings of Lord Bodyguard Muneeswaran Temple. On such festive days there is a beeline of activity and a huge pile up of New Vehicles could be seen on the road leading to the Temple.
