Kolli Hills is a small hill station with several serpentine bends and is located close to Salem. Sri Arappaleeswarar Temple is situated near the Agaya Gangai Waterfalls and this Temple is believed to have been built in the 12th century. Sri Arappaleeswarar Temple is also called as Sri Arappalli Temple. The Presiding Deity is Sri Arappaleeswarar who is found as a Shiva Lingam. This Shiva Lingam is said to be Swayambhu in Nature. It is said that there is a scar on the Shiva Lingam due to a plough when this Swayambhu Shiva Lingam was dug out from the Earth. He is believed to be an incarnation of God Shiva and His Consort is known as Sri Aram Valartha Nayagi or Sri Thayammai . It is a well known Temple of this locality and it is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam dedicated to God Shiva. There is a Sub Shrine in which Ganapathy and Murugan are seen together under one roof. There are other Sub Shrines for Kasi Viswanathar, Visalakshi, Vinayagar, Lakshmi, Saraswathy, Dhaksinamoorhy, Kaala Bhairavar, Durgai, Suryan and Chandran. Murugan is seen along with Valli and Devasena. Aadi Perukku, Maha Shivarathiri, Karthigai Deepam, Thiruvadhirai, Navarathiri and Aippasi Annabishekam are celebrated with great fanfare during which time the Temple is flooded with Devotees. Since Kolli Hills is a Tourist centre there is an overwhelming number of Tourists too along with the Devotees all through the year. This Temple has been included in the Kolli Hills package by the local tour operators in recent days.
