The Presiding Deity of this Temple is  Lord Pasupatheeshwarar and He is an incarnation of Lord Shiva.  He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Alangaravalli She is also called as Soundaraya Nayagi or Kribha Nayagi.  It is believed that Nandhi worshipped Lingam here and hence the name Pasupatheeswarar. This Temple is one of the seven Shiva Temples in Kongu Nadu Region. This place is initially known as Karuvur.  This Temple is considered as one of the Paadal Petra Sthalam that is dedicated to Lord Shiva.  Saint Thirugnanasambandar has praised this Temple. There is a sculpture of a cow licking the Lingam here and it is  the famous aspect of this Temple.  It is believed that this Temple is around 2000 years old.  One of the unique aspect of this Temple is that there is an eight handed Kaala Bhairavar here.  There are Idols of 63 Nayanamars on the outer Praharam. The Swayambu Lingam of this Temple is 5 feet tall.  This Temple attracts a huge number of Devotees from far flung areas during Car Festival and Panguni Uthiram. The Dwajasthambam of this Temple is made out of Stone. The Sthala Viruksham of this Temple is Vanji Maram and the Holy Tank or Pushkarani of this Temple is known as Brahmma Theertham.
