Erode is an important business centre and a District Head Quarters. Sri Kasthuri Ranganathar Temple is located in the heart of Erode Town quite close to Sri Arudhra Kabaleeswarar Temple. Sri Kasthuri Ranganathar Temple has a five tiered Rajagopuram which is South facing. There is a Neivedhya Peedam, a Dwasthambam and a Garudalwar Sannadhi facing North and looking towards the Moolasthanam. Sri Kasthuri Ranganathar is the Presiding Deity of this Temple and He is considered as an incarnation of Maha Vishnu. At the entrance of the Moolasthanam are two Dwara Baalakas Jayan and Vijayan who are supposed to guard the Moolasthanam. In the Sanctum Sanctorum Sri Kasthuri Ranganatha Perumal is seen in a Sayana Kolam beneath an Aadhi Seshan along with His Consorts Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi. Apart from them Sri Brahmma too is seen and so is Sage Durvaasar. A Historical story suggests that a pregnant woman offered Kasthuri which is a Herbal Medicine to Sri Ranganathar for her safe delivery. Hence from thenon this Presiding Deity was called as Sri Kasthuri Ranganathar. The Sanctum Sanctorum of this Temple is unique since it is rectangular in shape. Due to this the Vimanam of the Moolasthanam too is rectangular and looks like a Rajagopuram which is very peculiar. The Gopuram of the Moolasthanam Mandapam holds a spectacular coloured stucco Idol of Sri Kasthuri Ranganathar. His Consort here is known as Sri Kamalavalli Thaayar and She is revered as an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. The Shrine of Sri Kamalavalli Thaayar is built separately in a multi pillared Mandapam which is East facing. Some Devotees say that the Silver Door leading to the Moolasthanam of this Temple was an offering from the Mother of the famous politician Late E.V.Ramasamy Naicker of the DK party.
There are Sub Shrines for Sri Thiruvenkatamudaiyaan, Sri Chakkarathalwar, Sri Venugopala Swamy, Sri Lakshmi Hayagreevar, Sri Dhanvanthri, Sri Vishavaksenar and Sri Ramanujar. Apart from these Sub Shrine there are Sub Shrines for Sri Andal and a pair of Divine Feet. This Temple is supposed to have built during the early Chola period. The outer peripheral of the Temple has been laid with Kadapa Stones only in recent years to make the Devotees circumambulation more easier. Chithra Pournami, Puratasi Brahmmotsavam, Garuda Sevai, Vaikunda Ekadesi are the festivals celebrated in a grand manner.
