Sri Gangai Amman Temple is located in Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) in Karapakkam, Chennai.  There are two entrances to this Temple.  The entrance on OMR has two Elephant Idols on either side and will lead us to the Anajaneya Swamy  and Lord Rama Sub Shrines.  The other entrance would lead us to the Main Deity of Gangaiamman.  She is considered to be a Village God guarding the places around Her.  The Temple is North facing with a Five tiered Rajagopuram opposite to which is the Pushkarani or Sacred Tank.  Following the Rajagopuram is a Trident, Balipeedam and a Simhavahanam of a Lion.  There is a three tier Kailasa Vimaanam just above the Sanctum Sanctorum.  The Idol of Sri Gangai Amman is made out of a black stone and is eye captivating.  Around the Sanctum Sanctorum there are Sub Shrines for Navagrahas, Shani Bhagwan, Kaala Bhairavar, Veera Anjaneyar, and an Iyyappan resembling the Kerala style.  Likewise Vinayagar, Valli, Deivayanai Samedha Subramanyar and Venkatesa Perumal are placed in different Sub Shrines.  It is believed that this Amman Idol was installed more than 300 years ago under a Neem Tree.  This new Temple has been erected and Consecrated in 2015.  A few metres away from here is another Sub Shrine for Lord Shiva and we could find a Dwajasthambam, Balipeedam along with two Nandhi Vaahanam.  There is small Sub Shrine where Raahu and Kethu are seen along with a Shiva Lingam.   Quite close to this is the Sub Shrine for Goddess Karpagambal who is another form of Goddess Parvathy and facing Her is a small Sub Shrine for Naalvar.   Pillayar, Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Brahmma, Durgai, Chandikeshwarara and a Palliyarai for the Urchavar are placed in the outer peripheral.  All the 63 Naayanmaars are neatly arranged and displayed.  After this is the Sub Shrine for Lord Raama where He is seen along with Goddess Seetha, Lakshmana and Anjaneyar.  Diagonally opposite to this Shrine is another Sub Shrine where Rama Baktha Anjaneya stands majestically as a 11 feet black stone Idol. Oil Lamps cannot be lit anywhere and they have earmarked a place and have erected a metal shelf exclusively for lighting lamps.  There is a mini stage or a podium where functions should be conducted and more than 100 people could be seated with ease.  Likewise they have a special enclosure with steel tables and benches for Annadhanam and for certain functions.  Ample car parking space too is available.  In a nutshell the Temple is well maintained and could be eye captivating for any Devotees who visit here.
