Luz Anjaneyar Temple in Mylapore is also called as Thanneerthurai Anjaneyar or Sanskrit College Anjaneyar Temple. It is located on a busy Thiru Vi Ka Road in Mylapore where vehicular parking is almost next to impossible. It is referred as Thannerthurai Anjaneyar Temple because it is located in the Thanneerthurai Market area. Some refer it as Sanskrit College Anjaneyar Temple due to its proximity to the Sanskrit College. Former Indian Governor General Late Rajaji alias Rajagopalachari had kept the manuscripts of his epic writing Chakravarthy Thirumagan in this Temple before it was published. It is a West facing Temple with a three tiered Rajagopuram. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Anjaneya Swamy though West facing is seen as if He is walking Southwards. He is seen with ear rings and with dazzling and resplendent eyes. His right hand is in a Abhaya Hasta posture whereas His left hand is seen resting on His Hip with a Mace. The entire Presiding Deity is seen rested on an elevated podium. The Urchavamoorthy Idol too is seen within the same Moolasthanam where He is garlanded with Betal Leaves or Vetrilai Malai. To the right of the Anjaneya Swamy Sannadhi is the Shrine of Sri Kothanda Ramar. Along with Sri Kothanda Ramar, Goddess Seetha, Lakshmana and Hanuman too could be seen West facing. There are two coloured Dwara Baalagas who stand guard on either side of the Shrine of Kothanda Ramar. The Urchavamoorthy Idols are also kept within the same Shrine. There is a West facing Sub Shrine for Sri Srinivasa Perumal and another West facing Sub Shrine for Padmavathy Thaayar. Devotees may have to climb 4 to 5 steps to reach these Shrines. There are two Dwara Baalagas who stand guard before the Sub Shrine of Sri Srinivasa Perumal. Close to these Sub Shrines there is a South facing coloured Idol of Anjaneya Swamy. The Temple also has a Sub Shrine for Pallikonda Ranganathar and Srinivasa Perumal and Padmavathy Thaayar. There are coloured Idols of Sri Krishna and Hanuman. Hanumath Jayanthi, Sri Rama Navami and Krishna Jayanthi are celebrated in a grand manner.
It is believed that the Shettys of Mysore who were tormented by the Mysore Ruler Yusuf Khan 300 years ago shifted their base from Mysore to Mylapore. The area then was full of Potters and people started referring this place as Kosapet or Kuyapet. Later these Mysore Shettys unified along with the Tamil Chettiyars and were mainly instrumental in bringing up this Temple to the level what it is today.
