This Temple is supposed to be and ancient Temple having been built more than 1300 years ago. The full name of the Temple is Sri Abhayambal Samedha Sri Veerabadra Swamy Temple. The Temple does not have any Rajagopuram but instead there is a North facing Gopuram with coloured Idols. There is a North facing Gopuram on which Divine Idols are displayed. On either side of the entrance there are two Elephant Idols. To the left is the Sub Shrine of Bala Vinayagar and to the right is a Bala Subramaniyar Sub Shrine. There is a multi pillared Mandapam which leads to the Moolasthanam. Unlike other Temples this Temple has a small Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram within the multi pillared Mandapam. There is a small Neivedhya Peedam and a South facing Nandhi Vaahanam which faces the Moolasthanam. On either side of the entrance there are two Dwara Baalaga hand drawn Images. In the Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Veerabadra Swamy is seen North facing and He is also known as Kalyana Virabhadra Swami. He is rightly called so since this is the place where Veeradadra Swami presented Himself before the Dhakshan in a Kalyanakolam. Normally Veerabhadra Swami is considered to be aggressive but He presents Himself as a Shantha Swaroopi here. This is due to the fact Veerabadra Swamy is delighted due to the pleasant odour of the Belal Leaves garlands. He is found garlanded with Betal Leaves. This has been an usual practice since this place was full of Betal Plants or Vetrilai Kodigal. There is a Sub Shrine of Sundara Vinayagar to the left of the Moolasthanam. To the right of the Sanctum Sanctorum is the Shrine of the Ambal who is known here as Goddess Abhayambal. She is seen North facing and in a standing posture. It is said that Goddess Abhayambika had safeguarded (Abhayam) the interests of the Peacock or Mayil of this area and hence this place was called as Mylapore. There is a West facing Sub Shrine of Perumal who is called here as Seer Kondu Vandha Perumal. There is an East facing Sub Shrine of Virupakseeshwarar. In Thiruvannamalai He is seen as Eight Shiva Lingams whereas here all the Eight Shiva Lingams are joined together as a solitary Shiva Lingam. Next to this is the East facing Sub Shrine of Sri Sarabeshwarar and the next East facing Sub Shrine is that of Sri Siva Subramaniyar who is considered on par with Thiruporur Murugan. Similarly there is an East facing Sub Shrine of Adhi Shankarar.
The outer peripheral has a West facing Sub Shrine of Sri Chandikeshwarar and a South facing Sub Shrine of Sri Dhakshinamoorthy. To the rear of the Temple is a Vilva Tree beneath which there is a Sub Shrine comprising of Vilvanathar in the form of a Shiva Lingam, a Vilva Nayagi and a Vilva Vinayagar Idol. A Vanni Tree could be seen and beneath it is an Idol of Vanni Mara Vinayagar. Close to this is an Arasa Maram and beneath it a Vinayagar, Pazhani Andavar, an Amman and a few other Naga Devatha Idols are seen. There are Sub Shrines of Vishnu Durgai and Siva Durgai. It is noteworthy to mention here that the former Kanchi Periyava used to visit these Sub Shrine during His period of stay in Sanskrit College, Mylapore.
Close to the entrance there is a Mandapam in which three Shrines are seen. The first West facing Sub Shrine is that of Sri Saneeswara Bhagwan who is seen as a Pachaikal. At the centre is the Navagraha Sannadhi. Close to the Navagraha Sannadhi is the Sub Shrine of Dhayana Anjaneyar who is seen in a standing posture facing Westwards. This Temple is unique in having 3 Sthala Virukshams and they are as follows: 1) Vilva Maram, 2) Vanni Maram and 3) Arasa Maram. Vinayagar Chathurthi, Aippasi Annabishegam, Arudhra Dharisanam, Masi Magam, Pradhosham, Navarathri, Maha Shivarathiri are some of the festivals are celebrated in a grand manner. This Temple has a steady flow of Devotees since it is located very close to Madhava Perumal Temple.
