The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Lord Mukteshwara  who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. This Temple  dates back to 950 CE and was built in the Somavamshi era. Many people believe that this Temple was built after Parashumeshvara Temple.  Due to its remarkable structure this  Temple is known as the Gem of Odisha.   There is an Idol of Saint Lakulisa. The Presiding Deity is believed to be the Lord of Spiritual Freedom. The Thorna or the arched gate displays the craftmanship of the skilled architects who had worked here. The cellings of this Temple is carved with beautiful images which depicts the life style of the Odisha then.  Every year Mukteswar dance festival is organised and event are held from 14 January to 16th January.
