Ettukudi is a small village located in Thirukuvalai Taluk of Nagapattinam District in Tamil Nadu. Some call this Temple as Sri Soundareswarar Temple since the Presiding Temple is actually Sri Soundareswarar, who is an incarnation of God Shiva. However a majority of the Devotees call this Temple as Ettukudi Sri Murugan Temple and ever since then this name has to stay. It is also affectionately called as Sathru Samhaara Sthalam which means that any Devotees who comes and Prays here would have NO ENEMIES. As said earlier the Moolavar is known as Sri Soundareswarar and His Consort is known as Sri Anandhavalli There are two entrances to this Temple. The first entrance has a three tiered Rajagopuram and leads to the Shrine of Sri Soundareswarar. The second entrance leads the Devotees to the Shrine of Sri Murugan or Sri Subramaniya Swamy. 

There is a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Nandhi Vaahanam facing the Moolavar Sannadhi of Sri Soundareswarar. There are two Dwara Baalaka Idols standing guard before the Moolasthanam. In the East facing Sanctum Sanctorum the Presiding Deity of Sri Soundareswara Swamy is in the form of a Shiva Lingam. In the Moolavar Koshtam the Idols of Sri Vinayagar, Sri Dhakshinamoorthy, Maha Vishnu, Sri Brahmma and Sri Durgai are seen. The Urchavamoorthy Idols are all kept together in another enclosure. Sri Anandhavalli Ambal who is the Consort of Sri Soundareswarar is seen in Her South facing Shrine in a standing posture. The Sanctum Sanctorum of Sri Ettukudi Sri Murugan has His Idol and facing His Moolasthanam is a Dwajasthambam or Kodi Maram, a Neivedhya Peedam or Bali Peedam and a Mayil Vaahanam. The Urchavar Idol of Sri Arumuga Velar and Natarajar are in another Sub Shrine. The unique aspect aspect of this Temple is that the Vimanam of Sri Murugan is taller then that of Sri Soundareswarar. It is believed that this Temple was built during the 8th and 9th century but it was taken up and rebuilt again by the Chola Kings during their period. The Sculptor who had made the Murugan Idol in Sikkal and Enkann also made this Idol in Ettukudi.

The Temple has Sub Shrines of Jurudevar, Sri Srinivasa Soundararaja Perumal, Sri Anjaneya Swamy, Sri Manonmani Ambal, Sri Ammaiyappan, Sri Mahalakshmi, Sri Saneeswara Bhagwan and Sri Bhairavar. The Sub Shrines of Sri Idumbam and Sri Kadambam are seen facing the Pushkarani. There is a Pushkarani or Temple Tank with a Neerazhi Mandapam or Vasatha Mandapam. Festivals like  Chitra Pournami, Skanda Sasthi, Vaikasi Visakam, Thiruvadhirai and Karthikai is celebrated in a grand manner.
