Sri Pamban Swamigal Temple is also known as Sri Pambam Kumaragurudasar Temple and it is located next to Kalakshethra Foundation in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai. In earlier times this place was known as Mayurapuram and Sri Pambam Swamigal Temple was known as Sri Mayuranatha Swamy Temple. This name could be attributed due to the fact that Sri Pambam Swamigal was very close to Sri Murugan and hence the official Vaahanam or Mayil Vaahanam would have been close to the heart of Sri Pambam Swamigal too. It is built in a whopping area and has an entrance which is West facing. To begin with the Temple has a East facing Sub Shrine pertaining to that of Sri Subramaniyadasar who was the prime disciple of Sri Pambhan Swami. Devotees can enter this Sub Shrine and Pray before Sri Subramaniyadasar's Sub Shrine. He is considered of prime importance since He was the only disciple who looked after and took care of Sri Pambam Swamigal by chanting Shanmuga Kavasam Slokas continuously when the latter was injured with a fractured leg and when His mobility was very limited. Devotees can circumambulate the Sub Shrine of Sri Subramaniyadasar. They have lit an Oil Lamp which could be seen glowing to the eyes of the Devotees. This Sub Shrine can be circumambulated by the Devotees through the outer peripheral also.
Next is the Shrine of Sri Pamban Swamigal who is also known as Sri Pambam Kumaragurudasar. This Shrine has been built in a huge multi pillared Mandapam and is East facing. Each of these pillars are painted in contrast colours making it look eye appealing to any onlookers seeing them. Even the ceiling of Sri Pambam Swamigal's Shrine bears testimony of it since the ceiling too has been beautifully designed in gorgeous colours. The Gopuram of this Shrine has a coloured Stucco Idol of Sri Pambam Kumaragurudasar. The outer top of His Moolasthanam has been designed in a captivating way that the entire dome is gold coloured. The Moolasthana Mandapam has been designed and built in such a way so that several Devotees can be made to sit there and view the Presiding Deity of Sri Pambam Swamigal with effortless ease. There are two black Elephant Idols on either side of the steps leading to the Moolasthanam. An Idol of Sri Siddhi Vinayagar is seen to the left of the Moolasthanam. The entire threshold of the Moolasthanam is gold plated and looks dazzling to the eyes of the Devotees. In the East facing Sub Shrine there is an Idol of Sri Murugan and beneath Him is the Idol of Sri Pambam Swamigal. The Urchavamoorthy Idols of Sri Murugan and Sri Pambam Swamigal is also seen on one side of the Moolasthanam. Devotees who view this Shrine would be overawed by the Divine site they see within the Sanctum Sanctorum. It is believed that in His early days Sri Pambam Swamigal was an ardent and a staunch Devotee of Sri Murugan and this is the prime reason as to why both of them are seen within the East facing Moolasthanam here. It is also noteworthy to mention that Sri Pambam Swami authored the Shanmuga Kavasam and Kumarasthavam which became so popular with all God fearing Devotees.
Though the birth place of Sri Pambam Swami is Pambam in Ramanathapuram District He breathed His last and entered the Jeeva Samadhi at the same place where the Moolasthanam has been built now. Sri Pambam Swami and the Omnipotent Sri Murugan seemed to be one to the eyes of His Devotees. Many Devotees considered them as indivisible. Devotees can very well circumambulate the Shrine of Sri Pambam Kumaragurudasar. The Temple authorities have planted a huge golden colour Vel or Spear just before His Shrine. Also they have displayed a few Life Stories of Sri Pambam Swami in the form of a banner so that Devotees could read it and get enlightened. Parellelly close to the East facing Shrine of Sri Pambam Swamigal is a diaphanous enclosure in which the Temple's Chariot has been safely secured. The Temple has been in a whopping area of land. The Temple has an Office and a huge Annadhana Koodam for Devotees to sit and eat. Already a Nandhavanam exists but still there is adequate space to improve it furthermore. Every year 20th and 21st of December Mayura Vaahana Sevai is celebrated with great fanfare and on these days there is a huge congregation of Devotees from all places.
