Sri Rathnagireeswarar Temple is located in Besant Nagar on the South of Chennai close to Bay of Bengal. The Presiding Deity of this Temple is Sri Rathnagiriswarar who is an incarnation of Sri Shiva. He Blesses His Devotees along with His Consort Goddess Aralakesi. In 1968 Hindus living here wanted a Temple and sought the Blessings of Shri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Maha Sannidhanam and on his advice this Temple came up. The Presiding Deity, Maha Lingam of this Temple was located on the shores of Bay of Bengal as per the guidance of Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal. The Sub Shrines for Sri Vinayakar, Sri Valli Devasena Sametha Sri Subramaniyar, Sri Seetha Lakshmana Sametha Sri Kodandaramar, Adi Shankarar and other Koshta Devatas were created as per the guidance of Sri Maha Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peedam. The First Kumbhaabhishekam was performed in the year 1975. The Vimanam of this Temple is so unique that the Swami Vimanam is 5 tiered, Ambal Vimanam is 3 tiered and Sri Ramar Vimanam is 2 tiered. Festivals like Pradhosam, Sri Rama Navami, Hanumath Jayanthi, Maha Shivarathri are celebrated in a grand manner.
