Timiri or Thimiri is a village in Ranipet District. This place is well known for its Shivan Temple called as Sri Somanatha Pashana Lingeshwarar Temple. The Presiding Deity of this Temple in Thimiri is God Shiva and He can be seen as a Self Manifested Swayambu Lingam. Sri Timiri Pashana Lingeshwarar Temple is the second Pashana Temple after Palani Malai Murugan Temple. This Lingam has many medicinal properties and the Holy water which is used to perform Abhishekam can cure Heart, Kidney and several other ailments. Since the Lingam is made out of Timiri and it can easily sublime because of which water is continuously allowed to drip over the Lingam to keep it cool. Many Temples around this area were plundered by the Arcot Nawab. But Kannika Parameshwarar protected this rare Pashana Lingam by covering the Lingam and shield using a Geograpic Principal based Triangular box and hid it under the ground in the year 1454 AD. This Idol was again recovered by Mr.Radhakrishnan and installed again on 14th June 1985. This Temple has a 32 feet deep Sacred Tank. The Kumbabishekam of the Temple was performed in September 2005. Aani Thirumanjanam, Arudhra Nakshtram and Maha Shivarathri are celebrated in a grand manner. Athi Ruthra Yagam and Shatha Chandi Yagam are performed for eleven days.
